Winty's Story

As a fresh graduate, Winty’s career in psychology started off completing practicums in numerous institutions, where she served clients from the Social Welfare department, cancer patients in hospitals as well as children, adolescents and adults in outpatient clinics. Soon after that, she landed a job at the Hong Kong Correctional Services and this is where she spent her next seven years gaining experience as a clinical psychologist for young offenders.

During those years, she gained valuable experience dealing with addiction and mental health issues for adolescents and young adults. She has done both individual and group therapies at young offender centres and drug addiction treatment centre for women. She also enriched her clinical experience to conduct court-ordered psychological assessments on youths in custody during those years.

Later on, Winty got transitioned to the Hong Kong Correctional Services Staff Services and her scope of clinical services expanded to offer psychological services to correctional officers and their families. She encountered clients suffering from various emotional disorders, relationship problems, parenting concerns and work-related stress issues. With her work experience, Winty gained a perspective to understand these presenting problems from the unique work culture in a law enforcement working setting.

She moved to Canada in 2018 where she passed the licensing examination to become a registered psychologist here and is currently working for Alberta Health Services serving patients with different mental health issues. She is also seeing clients in private practice in Edmonton and Calgary.

Winty is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
